Yesterday we had to opportunity to do a wedding at the beautiful Benson Hotel, located in Downtown Portland Oregon. The wedding was held in the Crystal Ballroom and the reception in the Mayfair Room. We also got to work with an old friend of ours, Deidre Erin DeMerritt, from girlfridaypdx.com. She coordinated the wedding and did a fabulous job.

We had so much fun creating this very modern bouquet for one of our favorite brides. This bouquet was all about textures so we started with a base of begonia leaves, sedum, green goddess cala lillies and used folded psychopsis leaves, leucodendron blooms and succulant plants as the focal point. We then accented it with hydrangea, hanging succulant vines and tropical leaves folded with bronze boullion wire. A rich bronze ribbon finished this custom bouquet. We loved the opportunity to work with this unique bride because she allowed us the creative freedom to think outside the traditional box. “The trends have been strongly leaning towards a green and organic look and feel. Brides have been really interested in creating something geniune, natural, local and organic.” Says Anna Koptuich, wedding coordinator at Old Town Florist in Portland. To create these nature inspired bouquets, she says, couples can add blossoming branches, fruits, berries, sticks, vegetables, foliage and even herbs into the mix, depending on seasonal availability. Brides also have started to personalize their bouquets by incorporating a non-floral piece of their own, such as a handkerchief or a grandmother’s brooch or pearl pin.

“No Matter the season, all brides want something elegant and gorgeous, with that personal touch to make them each a little different and extra-special,” Koptuich says.
